The perfect organizational tool to build good practice habits.

Review: "This practice book has everything you need for your students to stay organized and on top of their weekly musical assignments! It is clear and simple, giving the teacher room to easily fill in weekly tasks and monitor a student’s progress. The added bonus of having staff paper in the same place means the student will not have to search for and print sheets of staff paper or buy a separate staff paper notebook. There’s even a little note-naming cheat sheet in the back! Not only does this notebook help the student’s musical progress, it also teaches them necessary organizational skills needed to be successful on any life journey they choose to take!"

I studied cello under Mairi Dorman for nearly 6 years and have known her to be the most persistent and successful music teacher I have ever encountered. She is absolutely invested in the growth of her students on a personal level and provides a genuine support system with endless encouragement! Mairi is extraordinarily knowledgeable and committed to her musical craft and was such an inspiration to me as I worked the most rigorously on my musical development as her student. She teaches her students to play gracefully yet build a strong foundation of hard work and dilligence that I now still reference as a student at Cornell in my everyday pursuits. Mairi has left such a significant impression on my life and taught me to approach every task with passion and enthusiasm and to never give up. She inspires her students beyond the instrument and I am forever grateful to have studied under her and still refer to her as my “cello mom”!

I had played the cello through high school and part of college. However, life got in the way and I had not touched the cello in years. When I realized I wanted to play again, I had no idea where to start or even what skills remained. Mairi saw my potential to regain my skills way before I did and has helped me flourish over the past two months. She has the ability to explain difficult concepts in different ways until you finally have that light bulb moment. What’s even more impressive is that she has done all of this for me virtually. I’m excited to continue my cello journey under her instruction! I highly recommend her as a teacher. You won’t find better.

music theory/sight-singing

I have had many a musicianship teacher in my 24 years of life, but none compares to Mairi. After just a few lessons, I felt the most confident, supported, encouraged, and capable I have ever felt in regard to musicianship. As someone with some math based learning differences and processing challenges, it can be especially difficult to understand music theory; and as a musician with these challenges it can be discouraging. However, Mairi helped break ideas and concepts down in unique and simplified ways, and never gave up on me when I grew frustrated or confused. Working with Mairi makes me look forward to musicianship lessons. Mairi’s patience, positive attitude, and calming presence are just some of the qualities that make her such an outstanding educator. Mairi encouraged me, embraced my strengths, and helped me to discover a new found confidence that only a unique sort of teacher is able to foster. I look forward to continuing to work with Mairi, she is truly one of a kind.

Working with Mairi on sight singing and music theory has been a game-changer for me. I feel so much more confident walking into a callback with never before seen music or the first day of rehearsal. She has a unique talent for making everything fun and easy to understand. Not to mention, she is a pleasure to work with.
